Mental Health Books
Okanagan Clinical Trials has developed a series of information booklets on various psychiatric disorders. These are designed to help patients to both understand their illness and get as much benefit as possible from treatment.
Each booklet contains discussions of the disorder as well as treatment options and other issues that can affect an individual's experience of his or her illness. Also included in each booklet are a number of helpful guides, charts and self-assessment questionnaires that compliment therapy sessions and can serve as a reminder of treatment progress and concerns.
I found this a VIP tool in
tracking my meds, my moods and all side effects. I like the
ring binding and the size fits in my purse for carrying to
appointments. I appreciate all the treatment information,
charts and pictures. ...I am very pleased to have a handy,
helpful personal diary - I feel more organized.

Mental Health Matters
Dr Latimer has been writing a column in the Capital News about mental health matters for about 10 years. During that time he has covered a broad range of issues to deal with psychiatry, mental illness, and stigma surrounding mental illness. He and his daughter Megan have now published a compilation of these columns in book form.
The book has sixteen sections on General Issues, Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Attention Deficit Disorder, Personality Disorders, Addictions, Aging, Childhood and Parenting Issues, Miscellaneous Disorders, Genetics and Molecular Biology, Therapies, Clinical Research, Homelessness and Poverty and Miscellaneous topics that don’t fit neatly into any other section.
It is written for the public and meant to explain things about psychiatry and mental illness about which many people are poorly informed or confused
By making these columns available as a book they can be referred back too as a reference or for those who missed them the first time they appeared. Mental Health Matters may be purchased for $19.95 on-line at www.okanaganclinicaltrials.com or at the office of Okanagan Clinical Trials, 204-1353 Ellis St, Kelowna, BC.
